Air Seychelles suspends flights to Comores
and Mayotte next month
Victoria — March
17, 2004 — Air Seychelles will suspend
its weekly Comores and Mayotte flights as from April 6 th
2004.
This is principally due to a reduction in passenger traffic
to and from those two islands whilst using Seychelles as a hub
onwards to Paris. Passenger traffic
has lowered between these two islands and Seychelles and this
is not expected to improve. There is also substantial competition
from other regional airlines operating more frequencies between
Reunion and the Comores and Mayotte.
Air Seychelles launched the Comores and Mayotte weekly service
in January 2002 with the aim of carrying on passenger traffic
between these two islands with a short stop in Seychelles and
later connecting direct to/from Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG).
Passengers normally arriving on Tuesdays from the Comores and
Mayotte connect to the Air Seychelles /Air France flight departing
for Paris-CDG in the evening. However a large majority of tourists
travelling from Seychelles to Paris-CDG prefer this overnight
flight and the suspension of the Comores and Mayotte flight will
free capacity for Paris-bound passengers.
